Lactladies and lads,
Here's one that has me stumped. I have been helping a woman with premature
triplets get her babies to breast in the NICU. They are all doing really
well with breastfeeding, and mom's milk supply is equal to the task.
However, in the last week, she has developed numerous hard white patches at
odd intervals around the base of the nipple. They look almost like calcium
deposits under the skin, or scar tissue. They are not particularly painful,
but she says her breasts are pretty tender all over from all the nursing and
pumping going on. Areola is slightly pink and shiny.

Two of the three babies have a very thin white coating on their tongues, no
diaper rash. No other family history of yeast infection at present. Nobody
on antibiotics. Triplets are co-bedding.

Mom has some kind of irritation or rash on the bridge of her nose where her
glasses touch which has not been diagnosed. She has been using cortisone
cream on that rash without any change in it.

Anybody got any ideas. I am trying a couple of things before shipping her
off to a dermatologist. Meanwhile, breastfeeding is progressing
beautifully. Babies should be able to go home exclusively breastfeeding if
things continue to go well.
Deanne
