Just had a call from a mom with what is probably a galactocele of
long-standing (she's had it looked at with ultrasound, and that seems to be
the case). She's nursing a toddler and preschooler, and this am woke up
with a much larger, very tender hard area. Sounds like a plugged duct.

I was picturing the gloppy contents of a galactocele, and thought (right or
wrong) how easily those thick contents could cause a plug if a bit were to
come loose and get stuck in a duct, and then I pictured Peter Hartmann's
ultrasounds showing the enormous increase in diameter of ducts at let-down.

We advocate frequent nursing to help clear a plug. Is the reason we're
advocating them actually that we want *as many MERs as possible because the
MER itself is by far the best chance for a plug to wash downstream?* Those
are the moments when the stream itself increases several-fold in diameter.
