Karen, I hope I show respect to everyone who posts with sincerity and
a clear desire to help mothers and babies. Your post is obviously
heartfelt, but I have to say, no, you are not getting it.

You say:

>
>Many of us are working with breastfeeding dyads who are NOT the norm -- baby
>has a transient or an ongoing feeding difficulty for one or more reasons,
>mom has a physical or emotional-behavioral condition that interferes with
>lactation, both may be dealing with cultural issues that leave them
>(currently) in the a different place than others -- and the Code doesn't
>cover those.

No - of course not. Because the Code covers *marketing* issues, not
breastfeeding issues. It has nothing to say about whether babies are
healthy, or normal, or whether the mother faces individual cultural
issues. It has nothing to say about when bottles, or formula, is
likely to be needed, or when a professional may recommend Brand A or
Brand X or this or that piece of equipment, or this or that brand of
formula. Nothing. Not one word.

It is concerned with how these items are marketed, not used.

>preserve the potential for) a long-term breastfeeding relationship.

Of course. You need decent, evidence-based information, and not one
word in the Code precludes you having as much of this as you want -
direct from the manufacturers as well as from anyone else you may
want to approach.

What you may not have is an incentive or a scholarship, or any piece
of tat like a pen or a set of notecards. The Code does not forbid
contact between HCPs and manufacturers. It just makes this contact
information-based.

It's not - it's about marketing.

>, but Code
>discussion has created an environment that makes it difficult to have a
>dialogue with one another about those dyads that are outside the norm as
>well as those who have chosen some "relief" (hate that term) or
>supplementary feedings for other reasons (that are not mine to judge) and in

>makes me hesitant about seeking information about bottle-feeding products
>directly from the source/manufacturers -- and it has made me hesitant to
>share what I've learned about feeding-bottle flow rate with such companies
>in spite of believing babies deserve better (airway-protecting)
>bottle-feeding products. This has become a highly charged issue that seems
>to provoke judgements.

This is mystifying - there is nothing in the Code that prevents you
seeking information in this way, or from making contacts with your
own requests.

I am not, I hope, being rude or disrespectful in asking you, 'have
you read the Code'? Because I don't see how you could have this view
of it if you had.
