Has anyone got any information on breastfeeding with this illness?
I have searched the archives and books but not found anything. The
mother gave birth, at term to a 2.6kg baby yesterday.
A letter in her notes, from a neurologist, says that if the baby is born
with newborn myasthenia - about 9% of babies will be - the mother should
not breastfeed because of the antibodies in her millk. If the baby has
not got this, it is O.K to feed.
The baby is too sleepy to feed today so Mum is expressing and giving her
milk anyway.
I would welcome any info as soon as possible because I will be away for
a few days and want to confirm that the baby can have her milk safely.
Thanks,
