Thank you for your clear post distinguishing between the goodness of the
Searses earlier work, and the mistake they have made now if they want to
keep any credibility in the community of BF protectors.

I don't know the Searses, and I believe it when people who do know them say
how nice they are.  I know that members of corporate boards of directors
have a duty to see that the corporation maximizes its profits.  In most
cases they are also paid for their time at meetings, etc. and such income is
more than most of us would consider a token of someone's appreciation.  It
is very risky to make yourself dependent on this kind of income.  It's like
the frog who jumps into a kettle of pleasantly tempered water to relax.
Someone turns on the burner under it, and by the time the frog realizes it's
too hot, it's too late.  I agree with Jay that the Searses have made an
error in judgment, and there is no reason to prettify that fact, no matter
how sad it is.  But they can still jump out of the kettle, and they should
realize that all the reaction on Lactnet is from people who have their TRUE
welfare at heart.

BTW, I haven't written to the Searses but if I did I would be offended to be
perceived as a 'Mad Mommy'.  I am not Bill's or Martha's mommy.  I am a
health professional with real concerns about the credibility of a respected
colleague stemming from said colleague's dubious alliance with forces known
to profit from breastfeeding failure.
