I fully agree that it is scandalous and I keep trying to make that
point, but those "freebies" carry a lot of weight.  It doesn't mean
I'll stop trying, however.  For example, one rep keeps providing
cookies for unit meetings.  When they get passed around, I ask who
provided them (knowing the answer full well) and when I turn them
down it's with a comment such as,"No thanks, it is not ethical for
me to accept bribes from companies that are trying to undermine
breastfeeding."  On rare occasions someone supports my comment, but
it is usually met with rolling eyes or a big sigh.  One unit
secretary is a real challenge.  She usually gets excited when one
comes and tells everyone he's there and what he is giving out.  No
matter how many times I tell her I have no interest in talking to
him she is always surprised.
I haven't seen as much of the reps recently, so maybe there has been
some quiet change and he can't give out stuff directly to staff, but
the notepads, coffee mugs, etc. are still very prevalent!
