I hope you're not assuming that those nurses acted in bad faith. They
probably truly didn't know what to do. I'm sure they just couldn't tell
what was wrong and the BEST thing they could have done (and did) was what we
WANT them to do---refer out to someone who knows what to do! Yes, I know,
the nipple shield was not great, but I would rather assume that these nurses
were trying to help---at least they got part of it right, as you say.

Jaye again:

First, I rarely assume anything anymore these days. :-) From this
particular hospital I never assume bad faith from the nurses. I know they
did not know what to do and am very glad they gave her the list.so I wasn't
criticizing.just frustrated because it happens all the time.I want them to
know more than they do and they don't. They often miss things like tongue
ties and such - their head LC is working very hard to get everyone educated
but it takes time. In fact she is working very hard to get ABM out of their
hospital and get them on their way to baby friendly. :-)

There are other hospitals in the area that hand out nipple shields and SNS's
like they are candy (like the SNS given to mom for a baby who was hurting
her with the latch and they told her that the latch was fine and that he
just need more milk.he had a classic tongue tie!). It just takes time, you
know? And with the new SoP I'll be contradicting medical advice all over
the place if I want to help the dyads actually BF.sigh.

Thanks for the opportunity to clarify! Have a great day!

Jaye
