I am not aware that there is any official, dogmatic pronouncement by the
hierarchy one way or the other in regard to breastfeeding.

I have seen that Roman Catholic women are effected by the same cultural,
societal, marketing and familial forces, and sometimes biblical
references about feeding that effect every other woman in a particular
community and a particular historical period.

As I have been reading this discussion, it made me look up Luke 23:28-29:
On the road to Calvary, "Jesus turned to them and said, 'Daughters of
Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and your
children, for indeed the days are coming when people will say, Blessed
are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never
nursed.' "

Indeed, the days seem to have come. Perhaps that is why we who are
dedicated to this cause sometimes feel the urge to weep.
