I have something to add to the discussion on how to tell when a baby's
ready to start solid food. Somewhere, many years ago, I read how it
probably occurred in the cave man days. Families would all sit around
the fire, feasting on woolly mammoth (or whatever cave men ate). When
the baby was ready he would crawl right in and help himself. (Can't you
just picture it?)

We teach parents all about feeding cues for breastfeeding. We need to
do the same for starting solids. Let the baby take the lead!
