I agree with your questions concerning infection rates and sources.
I am concerned that  there was a conclusion made of VLBW infants acquiring
infections because of EBM.

I do believe the benefits of EBM for premature infants has been well
researched and documented.
The latest  Pediatric Annuals Journal  April 2003 was entirely dedicated to
preterm infants and breastfeeding promotion. One article provided  results of
nicrotisizing intercolitis  (a serious bowel inflammation  preterm infants)
whose prevalence was almost eradicated with the use of EBM for feedings with
preterm infants (VLBW).
I would like to have more results or information concerning the outbreak in
the particular NICU unit before a statement is made that  infants are at risk
by consuming EBM.
We all know there are many factors that could cause a serious infectious
outbreak in an NICU.
Reader would like more details concerning the difficulties experienced
before a link to EBM is determined.
We as Lactneter's have many versatile backgrounds and the importance of
clarifications only enhances our growth.
