Beverly Rae urged us lactnetters to discuss displays by Code-questionable
companies at ILCA conferences:

>The Board has spent many hours discussing the issue of conference exhibits
>and the Code, as well as listening to members. Many have expressed a wish for
>an opportunity to evaluate products that their clients may be using.

What about a separate room set up as a "play room" for such products? We
could
have samples of various minor pumps, bottles, teats, bags, storage systems,
whatever. We wouldn't need samples of formula; every company, I believe,
puts out a book listing the ingredients of all its products. Have a copy of
each on a string so it couldn't disappear, and we could read, compare,
discuss to our hearts' content without having a rep leaning over us touting
all the wonders of the product. Add a dollar or two to the registration for
a notation on our badges allowing those people to be "admitted", and that
would cover the cost of buying whatever needed to be bought for the "play
room" (the books, I'm quite sure, are free, and many of us would be willing
to donate items).

Educational, no possibility of Code violation, a chance for us to praise and
denigrate freely... and when the day comes that we're able to free ourselves
from major funders like Medela and Hollister, we can put *them* in that
little room too! Won't that be a wonderful day!

(Note that this is being sent to both ILCA and lactnet; don't hit "reply
all" unless you mean to!)
