My name is Julie Lopez and I am the Public Information Officer for White
River Concepts. I also manage the White River Website
(http://www.whiteriver.com). In answer to the various inquiries about soft
"inserts", milk supply, comfort, and research, I would like to offer the
following. While it is correct that there is no research proving the
efficacy of soft "inserts", there is impressive research showing the rise in
maternal prolactin levels and milk volume obtained using the "stand-alone"
patented, White River Soft-Cup. Pediatrics, March 1992 published a study
conducted at Georgetown University, which measured the blood serum prolactin
levels of mothers using various forms of pumping, and with nursing babies as
the control. I believe it is the only study in which a breast pump achieved
similar levels of prolactin as the nursing babies. The competitive response
to this study is that it compares "apples to oranges", because the methods
used were double electric, manual, battery pumps and hand expression. Does
anyone know of a study which shows that any "rigid funnel" pump was able to
elicit the prolactin levels achieved by WR in this study?
Mothers routinely use WR pumps to restore their milk supply after weeks of
pumping with other products and sometimes after giving up on pumping
entirely. It takes about five days for most moms to relactate with our
pump, and the pump and kit is provided free of charge to the mom if it is
part of an evaluation procedure at the hospital.
E-mail me privately if have a patient who needs to boost her milk
production. Thanks. Julie
