Hi Pam,

Thanks for your post.  It gave me a laugh as I pictured you nursing your babies while kneeling next to the bed.  But your point is well made.  The early days of nursing are difficult because so much more is required of the mother in terms of keeping the baby latched on.  I think this may especially be true for mothers who have nursed toddlers and who have become accustomed to nursing someone who knows how to nurse completely unassisted!  

A few days ago I took my three children to the park for a playdate and Nora (3 weeks old) wanted to nurse.  I struggled to find a comfortable position that worked since I usually nurse her in a comfy chair with pillows and here I was sitting cross-legged on a blanket.  I finally just put her on the blanket and stretched out next to her to nurse.  That wonderful side-lying position is one of her favorites and it worked just fine.  Perhaps it wasn't very discreet for nursing in public, but I don't worry much about that these days!
