You make very valid points - healthy snacking and drinking water are key for
both adults and kids. They are key for good nutrition. I actually prefer
to eat small snacks all day long as opposed to just 3 meals - I feel better
and don't feel overloaded with food. But what I do think is happening in
many situations is that food and snacks and sippy cups (filled with juice,
fruit punch, and sugary drinks) can become a crutch to keep little ones
busy, happy and pacified - thus causing an unhealthy attachment to food for
comfort. When moms are busy, they may be inclined to hand over a drink or
food to keep the little ones happy and quiet.

For adults (and kids) to carry around a water bottle is great - but so many
times it isn't a water bottle - it is cola, caffeine energy drinks, etc.
And a quick stop through the drive through with it. I believe the sitting
down for healthy snacks of peanut butter and apples with water is being
replaced with on the go cokes and fries in so many cases. You are
absolutely right - snacking is very important, and should be done in a
healthy way - when kiddos are hungry - not just to be entertained or
soothed. It has become an "on the go" society thing - at least here in America.

I did read the post about removing the sippy cup valves - it absolutely
works. I do like the smaller spouts on the non leak proof types, but also
I'm just cheap and liked to pay for the less expensive version!! :)
