Now that I have a scale, I'm not sure how I survived without it.  Rather than
get my moms upset over its use (I've been concerned about that too), I simply
weigh the baby as a matter of routine, sort of like they do in the docs
office.  then we do the entire rest of the consult, including the feed.  At
the very end, I'll say, "Hey, let's pop the baby back on the scale just for
fun." Most of the moms aren't even aware they are going to have a "test
weigh" unless they've been to me before -- and in those cases, the moms are
the ones that want to see what is going on and want the test weighs.

So, it can be done without putting them on the spot of having to perform; at
least no more than they have to perform for you anyway....
