I don't have experience with relactation to one side, but two mothers I saw
in the last 2 years exclusively nursed on one breast - one because she
didn't like the leaking of the right side (it had been pierced), so she
kept her baby on the left - second baby came, she tandem nursed for a while
on both, then decided to tandem nurse both on the left because of the
leaking.

A second mom was born (at least I think so, as she had no history of
trauma) with no ductwork to the outside on the right breast - when I saw
her, both breasts were terribly engorged as she had decided to wean.
 However, we were able to get the baby nursing beautifully on the left
breast - and she used cold compresses, cabbage leaves, etc. on the right
side.  Left breast did fine.

Just remembered my case from 12 years ago - a pediatrician in our clinic
came to me to "fix" the "problem" this mom was having with a 6 month old.
 I walked in to a GORGEOUS, happy 6 month old and a mom who explained to me
that when he was born, he refused her left breast most of the time - so she
just naturally moved him more and more often to the right, until she
realized that he was mostly on the right - so she has been exclusively
breastfeeding on the right for over 5 months...I of course encouraged her
and explained the situation (NOT the "problem") to the doctor.
