Here's my bet re: Donna Ron's mother who wants to wean her 15-month old but
whose daughter wants to nurse frequently while mom's home: betcha this kid
will fight like crazy against weaning right now! I'd make all the usual
sensitive suggestions for "how-to" to the mom (it *is* her decision, after
all), but I'd also encourage her to not get into a big fight scene with her
daughter right now if she doesn't seem to want to wean yet. Mom thinks she's
exhausted now - wait till she starts struggling with a 15-month old that has
less-than-no intention to wean!

Here is the #1 pearl of wisdom I've gleaned from 22 years of being a mother:
don't fight! Decide early, early on whether any given issue is the "hill you
want to die on" (as my sister always says), and either adjust your own
position quickly (aka give in) or make it quite clear that the point in
question is not an area for argument and prolonged to-and-fro'ing. In my
experience, weaning a child that's still very attached to nsg a lot at this
age isn't likely to be a big success, and who needs another hassle
(struggling w/the kid)? Like so-called "toilet training" - you can make it
into a huge fuss for everyone for months, or you can wait till the kid says
"oh, yeah, now I'm gonna use the toilet" and have it over with in a couple
of days!

me to pronounce on toileting practices!)
