I went for more than 5 years without a period; pregnant with Amanda in
Feb. 78, conceived Wendy around September of 80 (still no period - but I
must have ovulated when we went to a party and Amanda didn't nurse for
12 hours). It was fun since I didn't know my due date and refused to
have an ultrasound. Wendy was born in July 81. I got my period back in
July of 83, while she was still nursing.  Since there is 10 years
between my oldest and my youngest, Jeni was 12 years old at the time and
the family joke was who would get their period first (mom or her). One
of my friends, however, always got her period back around 10-12 weeks
even when she was tandem nursing. She had five kids. Everyone is
different!
