Dear Colleagues,

I forwarded the recent PCOS question to a dietitian colleague who recently
conducted a training on PCOS for lactation consultants. Here is a response
from one of the LC's who attended the training. Also, I have the flyer she
mentioned in the email, so contact me off list if you want it forwarded to
you.

All the best,
Renata Mangrum, MPH, RD

Some thoughts I have, though I did skim through the email:

Keep things as simple as possible for this mother who has alot on her
plate. Too many 'bells
and whistles' can overwhelm a person and defeat the well meaning goal. Most
importantly try
to preserve/protect whatever milk supply she is able to achieve via pumping
with a hospital
grade pump, given she has a premie and a complicated history. Skin to skin
is important for both mom and baby to get those endorphins going!
I would continunally praise mom for all she is going, each drop of her milk
is valuable to her
and baby. Employ as much personal and community resources as possible so mom
can spend time recovering and assimilating all this.
If she is not already aware of it, introduce her to the bfar.org website
(breastfeeding after
reduction surgery...there is also a good book in that resource too).
Depending on her glucose stability/monitoring, consider the galactogogue
tinctures over the teas and capsules, esp the ones with goat's rue, in
addition to the fenugreek an blessed thistle.
We use Mother's Love More Milk Special Blend here. See attachment re the
flyer we give mom's who are considering or using it.
