<<<Is anyone out there aware of data suggesting one use an elemental formula
as
a first-line supplement in a breastfeeding baby? Kathy Leeper, MD, IBCLC>>>

Kathy, In the AAP's policy for use of hypoallergenic (elemental) formulas
there is a recommendation at the end for breastfeeding mothers and babies who
have family history of allergies. For these situations they recommend
hypoallergenic formulas as the first-line supplement when formula is needed
in addition to breastmilk for the breastfeeding baby. The policy is on the
AAP website.
