Three posts in the archives got me through this exact thing - bad case of
thrush, diflucan, APNO and GV later, why was I still in pain? I began to
think that the pain was our lot in life and had every IBCLC from here to
Cape Cod look at the latch thinking that must be the case. What your client
may need is time.

Here is a great post by Maureen Minchin on yeast:

And these 2 by Jean Kotterman on nipple pain:

When the nipple is assaulted by yeast, it may take a long time to heal. The
pain usually still feels "yeasty" - burning, ground glass, radiating to the
shoulder/back - IT DOES GET BETTER - at 3 months PP, I am nursing pain free.
It takes about a month to 6 weeks for the pain to totally subside, and often
happens in a "two steps forward, one step back" kind of way with good days
and bad days. Since side lying nursing stressed the nipple, for a while I
would get up at night and go to the chair until I healed.

I might be worth it to try Phytolacca or Castor Equi (homeopathics) if the
client is open to it.
