Kathy,

I was a hair dresser for a short time in my life. Yes, they are taught a
lot about hair anatomy, but hair dressers would not necessarily be aware of
medical risks related to breastfeeding. Remember that hair dressers make
money dependant on how many perms and hair colors they do. And most of
their ongoing education is provided by the companies that sell them
supplies. (Sound familiar?) Also, in some states, it is not required that
hair dressers attend a trade school. They can apprentice and then take an
exam to acquire their liscense. My experience was that all the sanitation
and precautions that were learned in school went out the window in the shop.
How many of you who have had hair color or perms have had a test strand done
first to make sure you aren't allergic? Does your hair dresser get a
sterile brush and comb before beginning to work on you? Do they clean their
scissors with alcohol? Hair dressers are selling us a service. It is our
responsibility to make sure that we have all the information. Their's is
likely to be somewhat biased.

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some
blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a
spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."
