With dairy sensitivity, don't forget there are also many hidden
sources of dairy in the diet. The mother should eliminate any item in
her diet with "casein, caseinate, or whey" also. That includes butter
and margarine (except margarines that state they are Parve). These are
in breads, sausage, lunch meats, most desserts, and many other surprise
places. She should check labels of everything she eats.
My son was projectile vomiting after every meal. The doctor
"diagnosed" GER and put him on Cisapride. He no longer shot across the
room, but still spit up. He had other signs of milk allergy (diaper
rash, allergic shiners (blackness around the eyes), got sick easily,
etc. I eliminated what I knew had dairy in it, and things got better,
but I was still puzzled. Then on a whim, I went into a pediatric
allergist's office that was next to my pediatrician's office and asked
the nurse if she had any info on milk allergy. She gave me a list for a
diet to determine milk allergy. I was overwhelmed at the things I
couldn't eat, but quickly adjusted my diet, and any remnant of GER was
gone in 5 days. Chris is 13 months now, and still allergic, but
tolerating more and more (I got weak the other day passing a Starbucks,
and needed that caffe latte...no reaction thus far!). I just found out
that his dad was allergic and on Nutramigen for the first two years of
his life.

Looking forward to the day I can have fettucine alfredo,
