For those of you who work with full term babies, most of them weigh between
five pounds and ten pounds. A ten percent weight loss in a five pounder is
8ounces. A ten percent weight loss in a ten pounder is 16 ounces. A ten
percent weight loss in a 7 pound 8 ounce baby is 12 ounces.

Babies who's weight is between these parameters, can be quickly placed
between 8 and 12 ounces or 12 and 16 ounces.

This (10 percent) would most certainly be the maximum weight loss I might
expect to see. This short hand method, carried in my head, is the only
chart I need when applied to clinically assessing the baby in front of me.
