My boss sent me via internal post the Summer Double Issue of Newsweek (Aug
2008). On page 40 there is an article on the influence of DNA on development
and the relative influence of parenting choices in light of this genetic
pre-determination. The paragraph on breastfeeding is not so bad, saying that
if you do have the right genetic makeup, then breastfeeding will boost your
IQ by an average of nearly seven points (not that I think that is actually
too important, but given the tone of the article it is a positive
statement).

I wonder why we are seeing all of a sudden all these articles that shine a
negative light on breastfeeding and parenting choices - towards the
attachment end of the spectrum - in general. Am I too suspicious to think
that this is too much of a coincidence?

"But I did Everything Right!" by Sharon Begley, with Jeneen Interlandi, Anna
Kuchment (NY) and Karen Springen (Chicago), Newsweek, August 18 / August 25,
2008; p. 40.

Best regards,

Veronica
