Hi, all

Maureen suggested looking into the diet of the mom who was given the IV
iron. In an effort to tell the story without taking up the whole digest ;-),
I left out a few details. This is a mom who takes her own health very
seriously and has been trying to manage the iron problem through diet for a
long time and it hasn't been working. She was even taking "liquid liver
fragments" (apologies to anyone eating a meal while reading this!!!!). Her
iron level "bottomed out at 7" with the low end of normal being 40. (Sorry,
I'm not sure what is being measured here--the numbers are just used to show
how serious a problem this is.) She fainted one morning and came to with her
2 year old trying to breastfeed, I guess in an effort to make mom feel better!

This is not to say that she has exhausted all dietary avenues, however, and
is open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks again for the help.

Oh, by the way, Maureen also mentioned "lead" pencils. This is a synonym for
graphite, but not the other way around. A lead pencil has no lead in it,
just graphite. Now, graphite may or may not be good for skin conditions, and
that is another issue all together. My guess is that more than one of us
here on Lactnet have various pieces of graphite under the skin from being
poked with pencils. Good thing it isn't lead!
