Hi all-I would like a discussion on antihistamine use please? : )
When a mom has a URI, and much discomfort with congestion, what is the best
thing to use? Decongestants like pseudoephedrine are ok, but if mom has an
acute otitis, for example, the physician would usually like to have her on an
antihistamine. The only one I have seen with a "compatible with
breastfeeding" rating by the American Academy of Pediatrics is
Dexbrompheniramine, which is combined with Pseudoephedrine in formulations
such a Drixoral, an over the counter med. I hesitate to recommend
antihistamines of any sort, since they frequently really decrease supply. I'd
appreciate comments from you guys, esp. you pharmacy types! Thanks : )
