I haven't asked for the mother's permission so I cannot post many details.
Here's my question: Will an SNS help a baby with FTT who is not very
effective at transferring milk from her mom's breast but is gaining weight
on breast+ EBM in a bottle feeds?
The baby has always latched on well and loves to breastfeed but is getting
lazy after getting bottles for 2 days.
I was planning on putting the EBM in the SNS instead of the bottle but was
stongly discouraged by OT/ST/PT specializing in infant feeding.
Thanks!
Vaishali Kute, MD FAAP IBCLC

Vaishali, I don't see any reason to not try this unless there is something
the OT knows that we don't. If so it would be good if she shared her rationale
with you. You can certainly try the SNS and have visible evidence of
whether it works or not. You can even analyze the total intake at a breastfeeding
with the SNS by doing a test wt. I'd go for it unless the OT/PT/ST can give
you sound reasoning why not.
