I antique shop frequently and just this weekend found a can of :

Nestle's Milk Food...a sustaining nutriment for infants, children
and invalids, made with selected cow's milk.

The label was fascinating for the amount of information (and misinformation)
and directions given.

One quote:
Nestle's milk food has given excellent results as an addition to the
diet of growing children, nursing mothers, and invalids

Another quote:
Breast milk is the best nourishment for any infant but if the
quantity available is limited or the quality poor, the breast milk should be
supplemented by other nourishment. It is not necessary to wean the baby.
Add 2 teaspoonfuls of Nestle's Milk Food to each ounce of water and give 1
to 3 ounces of this mixture after each nursing.
The substitution of a bottle feeding of Nestle's Milk Food for one
or two breast feedings daily, give the mother a needed rest and accustoms
the baby to the bottle, making weaning eventually much more simple.

Another quote:
All bottle-fed babies three months of age or over, should receive
from one teaspoonful to two teaspoonfuls of orange or tomato juice every
day.

I don't write 'em, I just report 'em! The can is unopened and is not
labeled with a date or even an expiration date (I truly do think it has
expired!), but the dealer thought it was from the 1940s or early 50s. This
is the 2nd can I have found, the other was a WIC can of formula. A friend
of mine in Dallas has two other jars of formula that encourage the use for
invalids also.
I think the ABM manufactures have been trying for many, many years to get us
into formula from birth to the grave.
