I have a question about the radioactivity in Breast milk once Mom has
pumped. A patient was receiving Tech 99 for a scan and was instructed to
pump for 24 hours. She also was told that instead of dumping this milk,
she could save it and feed it to the baby at a later time, because the
radioactivity would dissipate in the pumped milk in about 48 hours.
I am not sure of the chemical breakdown of the radioactivity in the milk.
Does anyone know if this is appropriate information? Most of the
literature advises pumping and dumping.
