I've been a pump rental station for about 18 years -- don't rent very many
pumps any more because it is just easier for the moms to take them home from the
hospital. I was a bit surprised to find out that some folks and hospitals
are renting different pumps (Lactina vs. Classic vs. Symphony, for example) for
different prices, though it makes perfect sense. I've always kept the prices
of the pumps the same whether the mom rents a Lactina or a Classic. My
rationale is not all that altruistic -- basically I've been a bit too lazy to change
the prices, and in the back of my mind, I've been wondering if the moms would
choose a lower priced pump based on the price, rather than choosing a higher
priced pump even if clinically I thought it would be better for her.

So my question to the group is this (and you can respond privately if you
would like -- thanks, Mary & Carol!!) -- (a) do you charge different prices for
the different pumps you rent, and (b) do you ever find a mom choosing to rent a
less expensive pump because of the price even if you feel that she would need
a more expensive one?

I should probably rethink some of my pricing strategies for the new year, and
was hoping for some input.

I still think that the reason Medela is discontinuing the Classic is because
it will be more profitable for them in the long run to have more Lactinas and
Symphonies out that the Classic even though they themselves refer to the
CLassic as the "gold standard."
