Hi!
Annie Furie here from Albuquerque, N.M. To Lisa, very interesting.
One thing comes to mind after hearing R. Lawrence speak at our
recent conference here in Albuq. on Breastfeeding the High Risk
Neonate. I heard some colleagues discussing that women who have
infertility problems are more likely to have lactation difficulties.
I don't know that I understand the correlation. Also, that women who
have pp hemmorrhage often have no or low milk production due to
blood being shunted from the pituitary. Could definitely be a hormonal
problem. It will be interesting to see what Reglan does.
On the subject of Reglan, any experience with mothers of preemies
using Reglan to increase supply? I am working with a woman who has
been pumping for 10 weeks now and lately is only getting about 5 cc's
per pumping. Recently we upgraded her pump to the double (had been
useing a single fully auto. pump prior to coming to us). She pumps q 3
during the day, nothing at night. She has alot of milk stored from
when she was doing well. The baby has just begun to suckle and is
making slow progress. Is on continuous breastmilk feeds and has short
gut. So.... the Reglan. To increase supply the Reglan will be dosed
10-15 p.o. qid. You should have seen the mess trying to get someone
to write the RX! In the future should be better once people get used
to it. Pedi concern is the baby getting Reglan due to short gut, so
we will use her stored milk as usual and save this new milk for later.
I figure once her supply goes up and with the baby starting to suckle
we can back off the Reglan. Any info. on similiar experiences?
