Before we get too "shocked" at the mother in law who wanted to breastfeed,
keep in mind that many societies see that as perfectly normal. In fact, in
some places on this planet any woman in the household (including visitors)
is expected to use "her" breasts to feed, or at least pacify, the unweaned
child.

In the recent posting it sounded like the birth mom wasn't open to the idea,
so we all breathed a sigh of relief that MIL was not able to try her plan.
That said, I think we need to be careful of laughing (or tsk-tsking) too
heartily. I work with a large international population and, for some, the
answer to "Whose breasts are they, anyway" is: the baby's. I've had several
infants in my practice who've breastfed with mom, grandma and/or auntie.

Boy, I've known several grandmas who wanted to bf their grandchildren when
daughter-in-law wouldn't! (In fact, I could see myself in that role. Good
thing I only have daughters!!!)
