Perhaps the answer to this comment/question is something everyone else knows already, but I am curious. If so many of our "breastfed" babies are also supplemented (or perhaps were supplemented at one time with artificial formula, but thereby forever altering the gut flora), could those be the BF babies that show up with the infection the hospital is worried about this little one contracting? Because they are more susceptible but nobody asks the question "has this child ever been supplemented with something other than breastmilk?"

I look forward to the WISE ONES' commentary!

Subject: breastfeeding before anesthesia

Does anyone know of any research like this? Her daughter just had a
procedure done in December at Johns Hopkins and was allowed to nurse 2-4 hours before.
So this seems to be very recent. She is trying to contact the
anesthesiologist for further information. Her daughter has major feeding problems, severe
reflux and allergies and nurses very
frequently (like every hour!) so 8 hours would be extremely difficult for her!
