 Mary,
It is so sad that AIM is treated as a solution to a problem, ignoring all the damage it causes itself. GERD is caused by food allergies and/or structural problems. Drugs do not solve either. A one-week elimination of cow milk is not enough to assess anything, but frankly it is likely the baby has more than one sensitivity. I never just shot-gun an elimination diet. The mom's nutritional profile and food choices are the first clues. If you can find someone in your area who does muscle testing, I would refer there as well. Babies with gut damage have moms with gut damage. You have to heal the mother to heal the baby.

Subject: baby "well" after being put on alimentum

My name is Mary Coutts. Posting for the first time in years. Received a call
from a mom who's 3 month old has been very "fussy, unsettled, unhappy, gassy"
beginning at around 2 weeks of age. She discussed symptoms with ped who put her
on something for gerd. Thought it might have been helping but did not. Has
since gone to a gastro doc who suggested she put baby on alimentum (protein
hydrolysate formula)Is this a formula that "covers" all possible food allergies
or only milk and soy protein allergies? Baby was a "different baby" within 12
hours per mom. Has been on only alimentum for one week now and mom states she
has a very happy baby. She has been pumping but wants to go back to
breastfeeding. She said she eliminated all dairy for one week before going to
gastro with no change in baby at that time. She is finding her milk supply
going down. I gave her suggestions for boosting her milk production. Would you
suggest she do a strict elimination diet or start with the dairy again and see
if perhaps giving it a minimum of 2 weeks would be the answer? She doesn't
sound like she wants to take 2 weeks to see if it works and then turn around and
have to try something else. Plus in her mind she thinks already it won't work
because of the one week trial she already did...Perhaps I just answered my own
question? Elimination diet? I have not worked with anyone before with a strict
elimination diet. For those of you who have, would you please share the
process. What about pancreatic enzyme supplement? Anxious for help from all of
you much smarter and more experienced than I....Thank you very much.
