hi all,

2010/10/25 Amy Peterson, BS, IBCLC <[log in to unmask]>:
> We are re-teaching the 18 hour BFHI soon.  Re: rooming in and safe cosleeping, do any of your hospitals use a specific brand of co-sleeper to attach to the hospital bed?  If so, who attaches it, is it safe without disarming the mother's bed remote control, etc.  We IBCLCs don't feel this is a necessary gadget, but we need to be armed with options for our nay-saying docs.  We don't want babies to be kept in their bassinets in the room.

one hospital here (http://www.klinikum-bremen-nord.de) just put the
beds with one side against the wall to allow co-sleeping.
this is an easy and cost-effective solution, but of course asks for
enough space in the womens rooms...
i don't know if they have a special directive for that, but maybe
you'd want to contact joanna simm
([log in to unmask]) and ask her about it.

hth,

Because the Medieval Church, with the support of kings, princes and
secular authorities, controlled medical education and practice, the
Inquisition constitutes, among other things, an early instance of the
"professional" repudiating the skills and interfering with the rights
of the "nonprofessional" to minister to the poor. -Thomas Szasz, The
Manufacture of Madness-
