<<I heard that one of the visitors performing a JCAHO (Joint Commission on
the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) inspection in a hospital in
California recommended that the hospital staff keep a record of the lot
numbers of all formula given.>>

Great idea! And you can go to the pt's room and say, "I ned to write down
these numbers, because if it's recalled, I need to know who went home with
these samples so I can follow up and make sure your baby wasn't injured."
Not too many mothers would be thrilled about that, I'm sure!

<<.and by the way, I HAVE seen formula looking as described - in Puerto Rico
- the transportation in container ships leads to it being stored in
temperatures much higher than those recommended, probably leading to
deterioration much closer to the expiration date.I imagine the same would be
in other tropical and poor countries.>>

I'm thinking I read about dumping - like when there's a hurricane or
something and "out of the goodness of our hearts" we ship all the cast-offs
to the afflicted. I remember when Andrew hit Miami, not only was there the
mess from the hurricane, there were HUGE piles of clothing that could not be
used (snowsuits in August in Miami Florida?) and food that was inedible.
What a great tax idea for a company to send a million dollars worth of
outdated formula, they don't have to pay to dump it at a landfill, and they
get a tax break for a "donation."

Best wishes,
Sam Doak
