Physicians work for the patient. We are hired by our patients to look out for
their health and well being, to sift through information and bring our opinion to
the care of those that have entrusted us with their care. It is our job to bring
the information to them and to include them in the decision making process.

The information that this physician brings to the patient is his understanding
of what is best-- that information having been delivered, serves to be part of
informed consent. The decision of how to proceed cannot be forced on this
mother since her informed consent is the only thing that allows care to go
forward.

Saying that someone "must" wean is not something that can even be
realistically accomplished unless this physician feels so strongly against the
use of that medication that he is willing to take that concern to human
services or other places to monitor this mother. That can't get anywhere
since data it readily accessible that this drug is not a danger to the child.

So, as the director of her own health care and that proxy director of the
baby's health care, she can choose to do whatever she wishes with that
information. She "must" not do anything in this scenario.
