Gee sorry, but I would like to see the references for what the doctor says.
Mother's milk contains lipase (see Lawrence) which allows the baby to break
down the fat.  Furthermore, rather than give the baby formula, which
increases the risks of infection (which is a real problem for babies with
biliary atresia), why not add lipase to the baby's diet (like a child with
cystic fibrosis).  That would do it too.  Besides, why wouldn't the baby be
able to metabolize the fat?  Why do you have to provide the references?
It's the doctor's statements which need proving.  The doctor, incidentally,
cannot force the mother to do anything. It's her decision.
