Valerie (and others)
I'm currently having a discussion with someone who is stating that all a
mother needs to provide is 15 ml of breastmilk per feed in order to be
giving her child "all the immunlogical benefits of breastfeeding" She states
that this is well known amongst LCs and cites Breastfeeding and Human
Lactation where it describes the situation as being that the total amount of
immunlogically active ingredients remains stable throughout lactation as
they increase in concentration as weaning occurs. Unfortunately, there are
no references cited within that paragraph (though I must assume that they
exist- does anyone know where this idea comes from?). I was under the
impression that there the dose related response that you described but
wonder how this idea of "total amount immunlogically active ingredients
remaining stable" comes into it. Could you give some more detail on the refs
you mention so I can look them up myself? Has anyone else heard this 15 mL
amount quoted or know where it might come from??

We have a huge study done by the CDC (Scariati et al.) on the dose-related
> response of breastmilk. There are other studies supportive of the
> dose-related response of breastmilk. (Raisler et al.) The more breastmilk
a
> baby gets, the better the protection against disease.
