It's already being done!

PRO-LC (Pennsylvania Resource Organization for Lactation Consultants, an
ILCA affiliate in sourtheastern PA) presents an annual "PRO-LC Physician
of the Year" Award to an M.D. or practice who has been "knowledgeably
supportive of breastfeeding dyads."  Physicians (usually pediatricians)
are nominated by anyone in PRO-LC; the PRO-LC Board of Directors makes the
selection.

We invite the winner to come to a meeting to accept the award, and make
remarks.  We send out press releases to the area newspapers announcing the
award (and describing, in the process, what PRO-LC and IBCLCs are).  We
give the recipient a framed certificate to hang in the office.  The
selection is "front-page news" in our newsletter; the recipient is also
given a one-year membership in PRO-LC (which means they get our
newsletter) and a one year membership in ILCA (which means they get JHL).

This is a marvelous way to recognize breastfeeding-friendly physicians,
and to increase awareness of our profession, and our professional
organization. The doctor is given (well-deserved) publicity, and receives
one-year's-worth of BF literature (a jouirnal, and our newsletter).

I encourage your local professional group to do the same.
