Dear Debby, 2 of my granddaughters, born in hospital and then home in about
24 hours, 1st one nursed 3 times in 1st 24 hours (panicking nurse grandmom)
the next one 4 mo later literally nursed (off & on, mostly on) for 1st 24
hours!  Both moms (4th & 3rd timers) were wildly engorged later on.

 I wish... for world BF week that someone would do a BIG study on what is
"normal"/average/range  amount of BFing in 1st 24 hours!  We need this info
desperately to calm the fears of this "bottle is normal" oriented world.

I always remember back to when I had my 1st 2 daughters.  They were not fed
(hosp. policy) for 18 hours after birth.  And remember the babies buried in
the Mexican Hospital in an earthquake- they didn't have any fluids for up
to 6 & 7 days.  Babies are born with lots of fluids on board (usually).
Why can't we trust babies?  I know meds and routines interfere with
"normal", but if we just had some sort of a true physiological picture it
would help so much.  Anyone in a position to do such a study?  Sincerely,
