Reading Barb Whitehead's data was very illuminating. If heating oil can
cause a huge rise in contamination, then I'm not going to worry about the
breast milk. Seems like we should be more concerned with how we heat our
houses.

Also, Barb's discussions of how 'accurate' some of the data may be in
Rogan's study reminded me of something else.

When I was in graduate school, me and my buddies used to participate in
research for the psychology department for $5 per experiment. It involved
word-association stuff -- they would flash a picture or a word in front of
your eyes for a split second and then you said whatever was the first thing
that came into your mind. Well . . . me and everyone I know used to just
make stuff up, the more outlandish the better. Like, we would be shown a
picture of a cow, and while we might *think* "milk" or "moo" we would *say*
things like "David Bowie" or "Neptune." Just random weird stuff. Was it
nice? No. Did we get a big laugh out of it? Yes. Did it impact the
validity of the research? One would assume. Did the researchers know?
Probably not. Do other people do this in research of all kinds, for various
reasons -- most likely!!
