Got a nice phone call last night...an old high school friend of mine
delivered her first baby in late November. She lives in Santa Barbara
California and I live in Iowa so I haven't yet seen the baby. She
delivered a month early and about seven hours after her birth I received
an elated phone call from her...(by the way it was one in the morning) to
tell me about her birth...the baby weighed 6'6" and was doing
well...unfortunately, the baby was given soy formula in the night "so mom
could sleep"...urgh!!! (Unfortunately, my friend thought the nurses knew
best and said ok)...anyway, got home with bf problems...baby wouldn't
nurse and mom was pumping and feeding EBM. She called and I called each
other and I gave her info and encouraged her to call LLL and/or private
LCs. She told me of a private group in SB that sounded like another
mother-to-mother bf group. Anyway, she did call and to make a long story
short, baby continued to have probs and she continued to pump...and had
pretty much resigned herself to that feeling good about giving EBM at
least. Anyway, she called and we had a great talk...a nice talk about
breastmilk being more than just a product but a process and I encouraged
her to try to put the baby back to breast and see if he would nurse now
if she felt comfortable with that. Well, she called last night and baby
has been back to breast for a week...no more pumps, no more EBM, and she
was elated!!!!!!!! I am so excited for her!!!! Just wanted to share.
