Jennifer Peddlesdent (Pharmacist, IBCLC and LLL In Canada) asked me to post for her.

" Hi Renee, admonishing attendees to check their portfolios was part of my talk on the Code to ILCA in 2011. I suggested everyone check their portfolios. It is not that they might directly own companies manufacturing products covered under the Code such as Nestle, or Danone, or Gerber, but these stocks are part of packages that are often sold to retirees. For example here in Canada, though my broker suggested it, I did not buy http://www.walterscott.com/investment.html because they would be in and out of these infant food companies. The best advice is to NOT buy these portfolio packages but buy individual companies one is comfortable with, or portfolio packages that are for specific areas. i.e banks. At least that way you stay away from directly being a shareholder in one of the main 'Code' violators, and stay away from conflict of interest owning a manufacturer of products covered under 'the Code.' Baby Milk Action suggested one firm that had been used by the Church of England ( at one time, not sure if now) http://www.eiris.org/about_us.html This corporation gives advice on ethical investment, the problem is, violations of 'the Code' are not universally seen as making a company 'unethical', so one still has to be careful. There may also be other advisers which do what Eiris does.

That is my take on this J
