I believe that Jack Newman MD has a good piece on this at
www.breastfeedingonline.com, how to know if your baby is getting enough.
Brick dust urine means that the baby is needing more fluids, and that
breastfeeding is about to take off well if things are up and running,
latch good, all systems go. Where is the evidence that it means that
there is pathology?

Subject: "brick dust urine"

Good morning wise ones...this is going to be quick and to the point. My
statement that brick dust urine in the first fews days of life is not
necessarily a sign of alarm is being challenged. I have searched the
archives and see the discussions, but I need references and facts for
this physician. I have done further research on the net, Medscape,
Pubmed etc and have come up without any references. If anyone has a
reference, could you please share it with me. I do not mean for this to
start a discussion on "brick dust", I just need some references. Thanks
in advance, I don't know what I would do without this wonderful place to
learn from others!! Have a great day. Karen Roeske RN, IBCLC Dayton,
Ohio
