A couple years ago our busiest OB told us that we could stop calling him if
we wanted Reglan (metoclopramide) ordered for any of his patients; we
should just go ahead and call it in ourselves. Now a couple of his
partners have said we could do the same thing. Feeling that perhaps we
should formalize this a bit, I wondered if any of you out there do the same
thing, and if you have anything written up. I was thinking of an
information sheet listing precautions, contraindications, that kind of
thing. We currently screen for a history of depression, keep in close
contact with the moms, and had been giving the mothers a copy of the little
article Kathleen Huggins wrote in the UCLA Lactation Newsletter that
appeared with Dr. Jensen's article on fenugreek. I had also been thinking
that perhaps we could pursue standing orders for Diflucan, since that's
pretty much the only other med we call to request besides Reglan. Any
opinions or advice?
