Yet another mother/baby "could be" breastfeeding dyad has been sacraficed on
the altar of ignorance. I'll try to keep this brief and those who want more
info can contact me personally. A mom who called me yesterday, referred by a
midwife I know, asked me for help because the child protective agency in her
state, CT, won't allow her to BF her 3 wk old son because she has Hepatitis C
(low titer tested now). I was gathering info and references for her, and Dr.
Jack and Alicia Dermer and Jennifer, whom I emailed privately, are /have
helped. Mom asked for letters from MD's as that's what the court wants).

Late this afternoon sometime her baby was taken away from her for the 2nd
time; first time was prior to hosp discharge because she breastfed against
medical advice in hosp and planned to continue. She had her son returned to
her after nine days under the stricture that she not BF; she's been pumping.
She has a lawyer assigned by the state, and is trying to fight this.

I don't feel at liberty to share all details but any suggestions for her (I
can't spend the am't of time I did today every day) and who else to contact
would be appreciated. I feel so sorry for her and her baby and think this
whole mess of government telling parents what they should do is outrageous.
Thank you.
