Dear colleagues, as a lactation consultant who is also a nurse educator at a
University I have mix issues with breastfeeding rights at college. I whole
heartedly support the mom's right to nurse on a college campus. But, infants
and children are not allowed to attend classes. I am more than willing to
make as much exception to this as possible up to the point of having the
child in the classroom. Is it possible to have someone come with mom and
walk the infant around during the class and let mom know if she is needed?
Most classes are only 60 - 90 min. Is there a child care facility on campus
and she can go there after classes? There are certainly other ways of
working with the professor to obtain a healthy outcome. I guess that I look
at this as coming to a job and during the working time most children are not
allowed to be with you but you may certainly pump or take breaks to feed.
Just my opinion.
