Some moms have thicker milk than others and Lecithin might help. A dose
around 1200 mg a day is what I was just studying about and we on the LLL
Breastfeeding Helpline had some luck with it.

Also, I would think that effective removal would be more important right
now than slowing down production. It's a common cause of mastitis in the
first place, along with mom's fatigue level. Is she close by the hospital or
does she have to drive far? She may be exhausting herself visiting them in
the NICU daily and producing milk and healing from the delivery.

Lastly, when I was reading your post it struck me that the lumps could be
abcesses. What does everyone else think? I understand that abcesses are
common in some moms after mastitis and are a bit harder than the softer
lumps with blocked ducts. They usually need to be aspirated a couple of
times, but mom can breastfeed while they are being treated.

Don't forget all the other remedies for mastitis and blocked ducts like
massage and heat, rest, hydration and good immune boosting nutrition.
